When the Student is Ready!
There is an ancient saying from the east that "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear". It would be futile to try to teach someone who is not ready, someone who has not yet taken the pre-requisite courses that prepares one for higher education. The teacher is prepared, available, and waiting though the student may be totally unaware that the teacher even exists.
I have often heard it said that Unity is not for everyone -- a person must be ready to accept the teachings of Unity and to apply the universal principles in his/her life. And indeed, most people have never heard of Unity; some have heard, but not responded; and others have attended a Unity activity, never to return. Could it be that they are not yet ready for the Unity way of life?
It seems to me that another attitude is in order:
UNITY is for EVERYONE !
You see, Christianity is for everyone, but not everyone is ready for Christianity. Football is for everyone, but not everyone is ready for football. Pasta is for everyone, but not everyone is ready for pasta.
I am simply putting the emphasis upon the teacher and what the teacher has to offer. Unity is the teacher and the teacher is ready. The teacher is prepared, available, and waiting with a message that can change our lives. I believe that Unity, as a way of understanding life, has much to teach anyone that is ready. And I believe that Unity, as a way of applying that understanding in our daily lives, has so very much to help the person that is ready. I also believe that Unity as a supportive ministry has much to share with the people that are ready. Unity is a message that is ready. The teacher is prepared, available, and waiting ... and the students are coming.
This is how I feel about Unity Chapel, also. We are ready. Our church is prepared, available, and willing. Yes, our spiritual program is exciting and dynamic. Unity Chapel is vitally alive, growing, channeling its energies to fulfill a multitude of needs. We have this Unity message to share with the students who are ready. We believe in this message of hope and inspiration for all. We believe in our ability to deliver it. We also believe that many are the students that are ready.
Unity is for everyone! The teacher is ready ... and the ready students appear.
